Controversy Brews as Microsoft 'Nerfs' Xbox Game Pass Quests in Latest Update

Tension mounts among Xbox Game Pass users following Microsoft's latest update, which brings substantial changes to the beloved quests feature.

Since its launch in 2017, Xbox Game Pass has stood out as a leading subscription service for gamers, providing access to an extensive collection of free games and engaging users with quests designed to earn them rewards. Nonetheless, a recent overhaul of the quests system has resulted in widespread frustration among players

Quests Overhaul: A Grind for Points

As reported by PureXbox, the recent update has removed specific weekly quests that tasked players with completing challenges in particular games available on Game Pass.

While the overall potential points remain unchanged, this alteration limits the variety of challenges, making it a more tedious process for gamers to maximize their weekly points. Some disgruntled subscribers are expressing their dissatisfaction on platforms like Reddit, speculating that these changes are a cost-saving measure by Microsoft, potentially driving users to reconsider their Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.

This update follows another downgrade to Xbox Game Pass quests in November, intensifying the discontent among subscribers. Some argue that the new changes make it too cumbersome to earn maximum quest points, prompting discussions about canceling subscriptions altogether.

Increased Difficulty, Mixed Reactions

The latest refresh to Xbox Game Pass Quests not only eliminates game-specific quests for 5 or 250 points but also modifies the point distribution for other quests. Weekly quests have been increased from 10 to 20 points, and the monthly "Quest Completionist" task now offers 1000 points instead of 500, albeit with more demanding requirements.

While this adjustment doesn't reduce the total points that can be earned, it transforms the once-enjoyable quests into a daily chore, potentially eroding the support Microsoft enjoys from its fanbase. Notably, the removal of game-specific quests, a beloved feature for many, has disappointed long-time subscribers who found them to be a highlight of the Game Pass Quests program.
