Why Solar?
Solar is one of the several manifestations of the Light in Destiny 2. It encompasses different subclasses, weapons, and abilities that focus heavily on dealing high amounts of damage.
Even though this is not something that you would gravitate to, especially since it lacks crowd control effects from other known manifestations in the game like the Void and Strand, Solar has plenty to offer in other areas.
For the Hunter, in particular, you can select the Gunslinger, which is a Solar subclass that lets you use the powerful Golden Gun super.

Movement: Triple Jump

Exotic: Celestial Nighthawk
This loadout presupposes that you are comfortable landing precision shots at the enemy. Precision Shots is just a fancy way of saying headshots in Destiny 2.
Since you are choosing the Gunslinger as your Solar subclass, you have access to Golden Gun - Marksman. With this super, you can deal massive damage so long as you can land those precision shots on your targets.
Gambler's Dodge is going to be your class ability for this build. When you perform a dodge, tracking from the projectiles fired by PvE combatants is removed, so you are safe from homing missiles and the like. This is also useful in PvP because your opponents who use controllers have their aim assist function disabled for a limited time.
When dying enemies try to escape your grasp, you can hurl some burning knives at them with Knife Trick. The Solar damage over time they experience after the knives are implanted in them should do the trick.
While you can technically choose any grenade in Destiny 2, the Healing Grenade is just amazing in all scenarios. When thrown at allies, they are cured a considerable amount. What's more, the grenade creates an Orb of Benevolent Solar Light, which grants restoration to those who pick it up.
Triple Jump is the preferred movement ability for this build because you can potentially escape a tough situation when you use it correctly. If you mainly do PvE content in Destiny 2, you'll gain greater benefits from using this.
For the Exotic armor, the Celestial Nighthawk works wonders. This thing converts your Golden Gun into a powerful weapon. Although you fire only one shot with this helmet equipped, you deal huge amounts of damage that can truly destroy any target you set your sights on. Just make sure to aim properly, otherwise, your Golden Gun super is going to be wasted.
