Larian Studios, the developers behind Baldur's Gate 3, crafted a poignant tribute in response to a heartfelt story shared by a player named Solfalia on the Larian forums. Initially expressing gratitude for the game's early access release in 2020, Solfalia highlighted the opportunity it provided to embark on an adventure with their father, who was grappling with Alzheimer's disease.

Solfalia's return to the forums, following the game's full release, revealed a touching surprise. Inspired by the player's story, an anonymous writer offered to incorporate a tribute to Solfalia's father within the game. This led to the creation of an NPC named Golbraith, resembling Solfalia's father, complete with a dedicated cellar area and poignant dialogue, evoking a deeply emotional response from the player.

A Personal Connection

The addition of Golbraith in Baldur's Gate 3 not only resembled Solfalia's father but also featured an immersive narrative through letters exchanged between Golbraith and his son. Solfalia, deeply moved by the tribute, shared the experience with their father, who, although unable to play the game due to residing in a care home, expressed joy and pride in hearing about his character's adventures.

Rachel Quicke, a writer at Larian Studios, acknowledged the heartfelt post, expressing her delight in contributing to the creation of Golbraith, though she clarified she wasn't the original anonymous writer behind the NPC's inception.
