Developer Embark Studios released a very small patch for The Finals recently. However, it brought big changes that finally addressed the aim assist issues players have been experiencing for quite some time now.

Aim Assist No Longer OP

For those who are unaware of the issue, players have been clamoring for Embark Studios to do something about controller aim assist (AA) for a while now. While AA is a staple in many first-person shooters nowadays, it seems that its implementation in The Finals favors controller players over those who use a mouse and keyboard.

Fortunately, the company has finally addressed those concerns in the newly released Patch 1.4.1. So, what has changed exactly? The most notable tweak in this update is that players who use key remapping programs on PC can no longer use aim assist.

This is a huge blow for those who have been abusing the infamous reWASD program to trick the game into thinking that they are using controllers just for that aim assist. In other words, mouse and keyboard users can take advantage of AA just by utilizing the said software.

Another significant change in Patch 1.4.1 is that Zoom Snapping has been removed from some popular weapons, including the Revolver, LH1, SR-84 Sniper Rifle, and all of the shotguns in the game. The reason for this is that these weapons have more pronounced Zoom Snapping compared to other guns.

Zoom Snapping is another common feature in FPS games where the player's crosshair will "snap" onto nearby targets even if they did not aim at them directly.

Here are the rest of the adjustments implemented in Patch 1.4.1:

  • Zoom Snapping Angular Velocity now has a max cap, preventing unintended rapid 90-degree turns.

  • Camera Magnetism will be reduced to 35% from 50%, making player aim less sticky and lowering controller accuracy.

  • Zoom Snapping Time will be reduced to 0.25 seconds from 0.3 seconds

  • Aim assist will ignore invisible players, fixing a bug with the existing system.

Fans Are Happy

The Finals player base is quite happy with the recent update. Some players have praised the company for implementing these "amazing changes." Redditor JerryCat72 is satisfied, especially since Embark has listened closely to the community and made suitable changes based on feedback.

Another Redditor wants the company to take things a step further by banning those who have abused reWASD and similar programs to gain an unfair advantage.
