After 45 days since its release on Steam's Early Access, the highly controversial game The Day Before has officially shut down its servers. People can still play the game, though they cannot join others in a multiplayer session.

Rough Start, Rough End

To say that The Day Before's launch was rough is an understatement. Multiple issues have arisen even before the game was even released.

Developer Fntastic had problems with a trademark dispute that delayed the launch of the game. However, this was later debunked by people who had previously worked on the title, saying that the issue with the trademark was all a lie to give developers enough time to polish the game. Alas, it was not enough.

Fast forward to the game's release in December of last year, the game was riddled with bugs - from performance issues to graphical glitches. It was so bad that the company pulled the plug just several days after its initial launch on Steam's Early Access.

In addition, The Day Before was billed as a massively multiplayer online game. However, players quickly realized that it was actually a poorly executed extraction shooter with barely anything to keep things fresh and exciting.

After the debacle, Fntastic's CEOs Aizen and Eduard Gototsev, issued a couple of tweets saying that this was their first foray into a huge multiplayer title. They added that they didn't steal from people. But, this is not entirely true because some players who bought this $40 game may not have received their refunds.

Finally, after 45 days since it was publicly available, The Day Before's servers have been shut down; putting an end to one of the worst scams in video gaming history.

Good Riddance

So, what is the gaming community's reaction to The Day Before now being officially dead? Well, it seems that the players do not really care about it at this point.

The game's official Reddit page has now been filled with posts by bots that are not even related to the title. The Day Before's official X/Twitter page is quite barren, with no new tweets made this month.

The Day Before is a lesson for everyone, especially when it comes to hype. At one point, it was the most wishlisted game on Steam. However, players should hold off on buying games in the future, at least, until initial reviews are out to make an informed decision. Otherwise, scummy game developers will continue the trend; making something that is so appealing on the surface, but with really nothing to show for.
