Wallpaper Engine 2.4 Elevates 3D with Real-Time Shadows and More

Wallpaper Engine introduces real-time shadows for 3D models, offering users the ability to enhance visual depth and realism on their desktop. The update extends the lighting features with a new volumetric lighting system, synergizing well with Bloom and Display HDR for crafting scenic scenarios with dynamic lighting effects.

A comprehensive step-by-step guide is provided on the designer documentation website for users interested in advanced 3D lighting techniques.

Model Shaders and Additional New Features

The release includes experimentation with shaders for model textures. Three new shaders - Vegetation, Fur, and Chroma - provide users with the means to simulate wind in trees, add volumetric hair, and introduce a dynamic metallic shine, respectively. Detailed documentation is available for users seeking a deeper understanding of these 3D model shaders.

Beyond the 3D enhancements, Wallpaper Engine 2.4 introduces texture projection, enabling users to project images, videos, or entire layers using spotlights. Local storage support in SceneScript is added, allowing data persistence across system restarts. Notably, the Dino Run default wallpaper serves as a showcase for the practical application of this feature with a newly added high-score element.

The update extends innovation to 2D wallpapers, introducing the ability to animate the shape of puppet warp textures. This allows for precise facial animations along the geometry of puppet warp textures, accompanied by an overhaul of the geometry setup for puppet warp models.

Miscellaneous Improvements and Windows Insider Support

Practical improvements are also part of Wallpaper Engine 2.4. Debugging user properties in the editor becomes more efficient, allowing users to test properties while previewing wallpapers. A new grouping feature for user properties is introduced, reducing clutter in wallpaper configuration.

For users on Windows Insider Editions, Wallpaper Engine now supports Microsoft's latest changes and future stable releases. The complete changelog provides an exhaustive list of additions, changes, and bug fixes, reflecting the commitment to enhancing user experience.

Simultaneously, the Android app receives an update, promising an improved mobile experience. Users are advised to note that updates might roll out with a delay across various app stores.
