Baldur's Gate 3: How to Manipulate Yurgir's Fate Without Drawing Your Sword

Yurgir, a tough character in Baldur's Gate 3 during the Gauntlet of Shar, can be a challenge to players. Instead of fighting, there's a way to make Yurgir take his own life. This guide explains the steps without the need for a sword.

Outsmarting Yurgir with Tavs

Talking to Yurgir needs some planning, especially using Persuasion. Tavs, the character leading the talk, should be smart and likable. This ensures success in the crucial parts of the conversation, where two tricky 21-dice rolls are needed.

Helping Astarion before entering the Gauntlet of Shar is a good idea. It impresses the High Elf Rogue and gets his approval. Raphael then helps Astarion understand something important about Cazador's scars. This sets things up for manipulating Yurgir's fate.

Make Yurgir End His Own Life

First, choose a party member with high Insight, not a Warlock, and decent Charisma. BG3's Gale is a good pick. When starting the dialogue, focus on Raphael to reveal Yurgir's contract with him.

Ask Yurgir to show the contract, and he'll sing a song. Key dialogue choices are:

  • "Put that thing down. I'm here to talk."
  • "Wait - you know Raphael?"
  • "He wants you dead."
  • "Let's share our experiences about Raphael. Perhaps we can help each other."
  • "Show me this contract. Perhaps there's something you missed."

Passing the Insight check is crucial. If it fails, consider reloading the game and trying again. If successful, face a series of dialogue options, including three Charisma checks with a Difficulty Class of 21. Failing any of these checks allows players to reload and retry.

Persuade Yurgir to end his own life by choosing specific dialogue options. Upon Yurgir's demise, players confirm the completion of the "Kill Raphael's Old Enemy" quest and can collect the Umbral Gem nearby, crucial for progressing in Baldur's Gate 3's Gauntlet of Shar.
