Larian Studios, the developer behind the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, Baldur's Gate 3, has announced that the Xbox Series X retail version will come packaged with a monumental four discs. This marks the first instance of a game on the Xbox Series X being released with such a vast number of discs.

Size Matters
Initially planned as a three-disc release, the decision to expand to four discs was necessitated by the game's size exceeding the anticipated limits. Michael Douse, the director of publishing at Larian Studios, confirmed this development via X, stating, "The Xbox retail version of Baldur's Gate 3 will indeed have four discs since we're 500MB over the limit for three. The only option would have been to cut some content out, but that didn't make sense, so confirming four."
This unprecedented decision has been made to preserve the integrity of the game, ensuring that players receive the full experience without compromising on content. However, this adjustment is not without consequences, as the release date for the Xbox physical version's wave one on March 25 is likely to be delayed to the first week of April, according to Douse.
Shipping Woes and Platform Variations
In response to concerns about the delay, Douse emphasized that Larian Studios would ship each version in the order of readiness, with the PC edition taking precedence. He noted, "No discs make life easy," highlighting the challenges associated with managing the production and distribution of a game across multiple platforms.
It's worth mentioning that while the Xbox Series X version grapples with four discs, the PS5 edition will ship with two discs, and the PC version will come on just one disc. The PC release will feature a custom installer and include a Steam key for user convenience.
