Pokemon Go: Primal Kyogre Raid Day Extended After Players Experience Connectivity Issues

Niantic Extends Primal Kyogre Raid Day Event After Players Experience Connectivity Issues

Niantic extended Pokemon Go's Primal Kyogre Raid Day event after players reported experiencing connectivity issues that prevented them from capturing the legendary water Pokemon.

The game's developer announced that both the Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon raid events will return to Pokemon Go. The news that the legendary beasts would be available for players during the World of Wonders season was made on Mar. 4, 2024.

Primal Kyogre Raid Day

The unfortunate incident was a result of server issues that affected regions' ability to play, prompting Niantic to give players from all regions two more hours to try and capture the legendary beasts.

The announcement of the raid day extension came from the game developer's account on X, formerly known as Twitter. The post said that they have already resolved the server issues that impacted many players.

The event was originally set to run from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time on Mar. 17, 2024, regardless of the region. On top of the server issues preventing some players from logging in, others reported that they lost Remote Raid Passes following the incident, according to Dexerto.

What made the issue worse was that trainers who lived in certain areas that were impacted by the server issues were reportedly not notified until 6:00 p.m. local time. This meant that they had only one extra hour to participate in the extended Primal Kyogre Raid Day events.

It is currently unclear whether or not Niantic will provide players who were impacted by the server issues with any additional compensation. This is particularly concerning for those who lost Remote Raid Passes.

The situation comes as even pro-Pokemon Go players find Primal Kyogre a difficult Pokemon to win against and catch. Trainers need to have sufficient meta-knowledge in order to defeat this legendary raid boss. Primal Kyogre has a maximum CP of 6672 and the raid has a chance to spawn a shiny version of the Pokemon.

Beating the Legendary Pokemon

The legendary Pokemon of the sea originates from the Hoenn Region and showcases powerful offensive abilities in Pokemon Go. Players who are looking to solo the raid should rethink their plans because the event requires a team with powerful counters, said GameRant.

Primal Kyogre has a stat spread of 353 ATK, 268 DEF, and 218 STA and while this legendary Pokemon resists Fire, Ice, Steel, and Water-type moves, it is weak to Electric and Grass-type attacks. This is what trainers should take advantage of if they are trying to defeat this particular raid boss.

Because rainy weather can significantly boost Primal Kyogre's power, players should try and avoid raid locations with these weather conditions. On top of using moves that the legendary Pokemon is weak against, they should also take advantage of the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) in dishing out as much damage as possible.

While you cannot catch Primal Kyogre in the raid in its powered-up form, you can get its base form and give it 400 Primal Energy for the initial evolution. In order to evolve the same Kyogre again in the future, you would need 80 Primal Energy. However, there is a "cooldown" period, at the end of which Primal Evolution becomes free, according to PokemonGoHub.
