Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide DLC Pits Players Against Leviathan, the Eikon of Water

Final Fantasy XVI Can Face Off Against Leviathan in The Rising Tide DLC

Final Fantasy XVI is getting its latest DLC, The Rising Tide, on Apr. 18, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and will cost $19.99 to pit players against Leviathan, the Eikon of Water.

Instead of buying the individual DLC, players can also opt to purchase the Expansion Pass for $24.99, which would include both The Rising Tide and the game's first DLC, Echoes of the Fallen.

The new content will be focused on a new area of the map and will also answer a major question that has been left unanswered from the base game: What happened to Leviathan?

The newest DLC will transport players to the new land known as Mysidia, which is located in the northern region of the map. It has been hidden away in the northern territory of Storm.

The release trailer of The Rising Tide DLC revealed that Mysidia has remained untouched by the Blight and still boasts a beautiful blue sky.

This offers a sharp contrast to the usually dark and gritty overcast skies that players see in the majority of the game due to the game's all-consuming plague. The reason for the anomaly in the new region is one of the mysteries that players will have to figure out along the way, according to Kotaku.

The region of Mysidia will no doubt sound familiar to longtime fans of the Final Fantasy franchise as it has previously appeared as a town in past titles. It usually acts as a location that is heavily tied to magic, which also seems to be the case with Final Fantasy XVI.

In the reveal trailer of The Rising Tide DLC, the narrator provides players with the lore behind Mysidia, which appears to be a haven for Bearers. These are magic users who are usually enslaved in the world of the game.

New Content and Features

The people of the new region have created a new mother crystal through the sacrifice of a single child, which seems to be the Dominant of Leviathan, the Eikon of Water. Dominants are individuals who wield the power of the godlike beings.

On top of this, the new DLC raises the game's level cap to 60 in Story-Focused Mode and Action-Focused Mode and to 110 in Final Fantasy Mode, which is the New Game+.

The player will be able to obtain new Eikonic abilities of Leviathan the Lost during their journey in the new region, said PlayStation. The new powers allow players to tame the tides and drown their enemies from near or far with the powerful might of the Eikon of Water.

This includes a brand-new Eikonic Feta, known as Serpent's Cry, that summons a sea-spitting serpent that is capable of dealing precise strikes even at vast distances.

Other than the new DLC, the game will also add version 1.30 which will bring some quality-of-life improvements to the title.

These include giving players the power to return to a quest giver immediately with the new "Quick Complete" function. A new Skill Set feature also makes players capable of saving up to five unique Feat and Ability Sets, according to IGN.
