Duckside Lets Players Control a Feathered Bird Armed With Bows, Guns in an Action-Survival Game

Duckside Lets Players Control a Feathered Bird Armed With Bows, Guns in an Action-Survival Game

Duckside is an upcoming action-survival game that was announced and will let players take control of a feathered bird armed with bows and guns to build bases, craft, and explore the world while fighting against other players in intense aerial combat.

The title has nearly everything staple to the genre, including crafting, base-building, PvP, PvE, and flying. The game's precision flight controls are crucial to outmaneuvering enemies while in the air and it can be useful when scouting too.

Duckside Will Soon Launch Beta Testing

Duckside is launching beta testing on Apr. 18, 2024, and will let players assume the role of a duck who must gather resources, build bases, and fight against other fowls controlled by players.

Players will also be able to upgrade their weapons, including guns, along with their bases to defend against enemy raids on servers that can support up to 50 player-controlled ducks. The developers of Duckside said that the game is not just about surviving but also about getting into the mindset of a duck, according to IGN.

The game was developed by Tinybuild Riga and features a similar feel to games like Rust and DayZ but with one major change. On the Steam page, the developers said that more than 10 million ducks are killed every year by hunters, which they said could be much lower if the fowls were combat-trained.

Despite its obvious change from the average survival game, Duckside's most interesting take is allowing players to fly freely across the world. This kind of freedom lets players experience a fresh dynamic compared to other survival games.

The game's announcement trailer showed off some gameplay of Duckside and showcased resource gathering and base construction. While the flying mechanic looks decent, nearly every other aspect of the game is rudimentary and the environment itself is not the most stunning seen in a survival game.

Duckside does not yet have an official launch date and it comes amid a series of other highly popular survival games, including Palworld and Enshrouded. Other titles, such as Sons of the Forest, while still in early access, are already enjoying massive player support, said PCGamer.

A New Survival Game Competitor

The developer of the new title is also known for other niche games, such as Hello Neighbor and Graveyard Keeper. Duckside will mark tinyBuild's first entry into the survival game genre and players can sign up for its Beta testing that will start on Apr. 18, 2024.

Similar to other survival games, the start of Duckside would most likely be the most difficult as players do not have much in the way of resources or ways to gather or defend themselves. As the game is still new, it could be a great way for players who have not yet delved into survival games to take their chances with Duckside, as everyone will start on the same level.

The developer did not mention whether or not there will be hunger or thirst included in the game but did showcase the progression of building items, which is important. The preview trailer also featured a variety of different hats that add a level of uniqueness for players to deck out their ducks.

The announcement of the game also did not provide details on how long the beta testing will last or how much Duckside will cost once it actually launches. The game is coming to a field with fierce competition and will most likely not be able to fly its way to the top anytime soon, according to ScreenRant.
