Bellwright, the highly anticipated survival and town-building RPG, has finally revealed an official launch date for its Steam early access, Apr. 23, 2024.

The game will be available to play later this month and comes as it was well-received during its Steam Next Fest demo last year. Many players particularly enjoyed its blend of survival crafting gameplay and third-person town-building mechanics.

The developer said in a press release that Bellwright is set in low medieval times and combines the thrill of survival, combat, and open-world exploration. They added that the game will feature a deeply immersive storyline filled with intrigue and revolt.

Players will have to lead a growing rebellion against a tyrannical Sovereign, liberate oppressed villages, and uncover the hidden secrets of their lineage. Bellwright also features a larger world for players to explore and is filled with people who need help as well as thugs and bandits to fight and wild animals to hunt, according to PCGamer.

All of these combat features can be experienced on top of the survival experience where players will have to eat, drink, rest, and care for their own injuries. The game's developer, Donkey Crew, said that Bellwright will be a "multifaceted experience from day one" following its launch into early access.

Bellwright's early access release is yet another addition to the number of open-world survival games coming this year. The titles include Enshrouded, Nightingale, and Palworld which have all brought their unique takes to the genre.

Similar to some other games, Donkey Crew's latest title will let players join other worlds and help them in their fight against the Queen. This could involve either gathering resources or commanding troops in intense battles.

Just like any typical survival game, will have players start out with absolutely nothing and they would need to chop trees and hunt or forage for food. After building a good foundation, you will be burdened with the enormous task of liberating the land from tyranny, said The Gamer.

The Era of City Builders

Players can also complete quests for nearby villages that will let them earn their trust and ultimately convince them to join them in their crusade. After taking control of a particular village, you can order construction and assign tasks to villagers.

These responsibilities include producing food and equipment for the war effort. This particular part of the game is the city-builder experience of the title and will require careful planning for efficiency's sake.

While villagers are already smart enough to handle any work that needs to be done, players who enjoy micromanaging can optimize their processes. This is done by assigning specific villagers to certain tasks and prioritizing the production of some items over others.

Donkey Crew is an independent studio made up of experienced developers from all across the world and started as a small team of passionate gamers. They were previously working within a large Mount & Blade modding community.

The group then grew into a professional company that started to develop indie titles. The company is based in Wroclaw, Poland, and continues its journey as an indie developer, according to GamesPress.
