Gamers around the world can now get their first VR experience for a much cheaper price as the Meta Quest 2 just got a permanent price drop from $299 to $199.
The base 128GB version of the VR headsets was dropped in price by roughly a third and has brought it down by $100. The Quest 2 is now one of the most affordable virtual reality headsets available on the market.

Additionally, the Quest store now has a library of more than 500 compatible titles so those who buy the headsets will probably not run out of recreational software anytime soon. But it's not only Meta's Quest 2 headset that is becoming cheaper, the truth can also be said for its accessory ecosystem.
You can now get the Elite Strap for $24.99, which is half of the price that it was not that long ago. The product's version with a battery also had a price drop down to $44.99 while the carrying case and fit packs have been discounted by 50% or more, according to Slash Gear.
The drop in price for Meta's Quest 2 is surprising but was not completely unexpected for the company. This comes as after a year from arriving in markets, Meta increased the cost to buy the Quest 2 by $100, bringing the 128GB version to a $399 price point. In the months after, there were brief discounts for the headsets as the company released the Quest 3.

Quest 2 being at $199 suggests that Meta wants to clear inventory and make the new headset in the series as an entry-point option. However, being priced at $499 for the 128GB version makes it no small investment.
This is especially true for people who are just looking to try out the world of VR content in a booming market. And with the Quest 2 being priced at $199, there are almost no VR headsets that offer the same kind of refined hardware and expansive ecosystem of software built around it.

The Meta Quest 2 is also capable of streaming games from a PC or from the Xbox cloud, which provides content creators with a new way to entertain viewers. Despite the price drop, there are concerns about how long support for the Quest 2 will last, said The Verge.
This is as the company previously let go of the original Quest by retroactively shutting down fan-favorite games and stopping support. Last June, the CTO of Meta, Andrew "Boz" Bosworth said that people should expect first-party games to support Quest 2 for "quite a while."
The Quest 2 was first released in October 2020 and immediately became a dominant player in the virtual reality market. Less than a year after its launch, Meta revealed that its product had outsold every other Meta VR headset combined.
While the Meta Quest 3 has much more to offer than its predecessor, adding to the fact that it has higher specs, the Quest 2 is still workable. This is particularly true depending on what the user plans to do with the product, according to IGN.
