'Hitman GO' Released for iOS- Square Enix Brings Acclaimed Series to Mobile Devices [VIDEO]

Hitman GO Released for iOS

Square Enix announced today that Hitman GO has been released for iOS devices. The game will be priced at $4.99 and take the Hitman series in an entirely new direction. Agent 47 is as bald, tattooed, and dangerous as ever, but in making the game for mobile devices they turned the stealth shooter into a turn-based puzzle game.

"We wanted to make something unexpected. Something that crystallizes everything 'Hitman' in the simplest way possible, while retaining the high class, cool attitude the famous assassin is known for," said Karsten Lund, Creative Director at Square Enix Montréal in a press release. "You have to consider your every move in order to solve the puzzles. It's about being undercover, smart and stealthy. We boiled most of the core Hitman mechanics such as disguises, distractions and different weapons, down to the simplest possible game, without losing the fun and tension of its AAA counterpart."

Shooters are notoriously difficult to replicate on touchscreens and even when they're done really well (like with Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto ports) it's doubly hard when played on the iPhone or iPod Touch thanks to the smaller screen. So it's always commendable when a studio tries to do something unique with a popular series rather than just replicate the experience. This game looks utterly fantastic and the style certainly wasn't expected, but for some reason seeing little Hitman figures being moved around a diorama completely works.

You can download it at the iTunes Store here. Sorry, Android users- no word on a release for your preferred platform just yet.
