The visual style, story, and character designs are taken directly from the 2012 Nickelodeon TV series and are a stylistically distinct period in the history of the show. However, the game's biggest inspiration comes from the 1991 arcade classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time.
Any player who has played the classic game will be able to jump directly into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants. This is primarily because the two titles share basically the same gameplay.
In the game, players have a standard attack that doubles as a throw when they are positioned next to an enemy. You also have a jump, a jumping attack, a dive kick, and a spin attack that can be performed by pressing jump and attack at the same time, according to IGN.
One of the main differences between the two games is that in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants, spin attacks do not cost health. This is a noticeably welcome change because it is very useful in keeping yourself alive.

On the other hand, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time remains as one of the best beat 'em up in history. This means that copying the game is not a bad idea but does make the new title feel a little bit too simple when compared to other games in the genre, such as Streets of Rage 4 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge.
Those particular titles still used Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time as a base but added more complexity, deputy, and systems that both reward mastery and encourage replayability.
Bringing Back Turtle Power
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants puts players in control of one of the hard-shelled siblings. They will have to slash and smash through enemies and take out bosses using items, power-ups, and "Turtle Power" special attacks, said Nintendo Life.
The game features five full stages that can be tackled in any order the player wants, which is already an improvement over the previous title three. Each of the levels will take players to battle enemies in a different location.
While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants has a less than compelling story, it focuses more on fast-moving combat against a variety of dangerous enemies. The game also features smooth and responsive controls.
The items that players can pick up include throwing stars, stun grenades, and even mutant support icons. Collecting one of the latter will summon either Metalhead or Leatherhead, who will then attack enemies nearby. This is considered to be the coolest mechanic in the game, according to VGChartz.
