Get a Load of Me: MultiVersus Adds Joker, Voiced by Mark Hamill, to Game's Roster

MultiVersus is bringing out the big guns with its latest roster addition by getting Mark Hamill to relive his iconic voice of the Joker, who will be the latest playable character in the game.

While the reveal trailer for the new character does not show any gameplay footage, the cinematic sets up a dramatic confrontation between Batman, voiced by the late Kevin Conroy, and the Joker.

The latest update makes MultiVersus the first game to feature both Batman: The Animated Series actors together as their respective characters since 2018's Lego DC Super Villains.

In 2022, Conroy sadly passed away and prior to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in 2024, MultiVersus was the last game to feature the late actor's Batman performance.

But dataminers were able to uncover the Joker's existence in the fighting game back in 2022 and they found audio files that reveal Hamill's performance as the character. This meant that he likely recorded his lines before Conroy passed away, according to GameInformer.

The Joker is the first new character that will be joining the currently existing line-up of fighters in MultiVersus and he won't be the last.

Many fans are now curious and eager to see who else will be joining the fray when the game re-launches on May 28, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

When Conroy died in 2022, it prompted Hamill to retire from voicing the clown menace as both actors started to voice their respective characters in the early '90s Batman: The Animated Series.

Their performances have earned a reputation as the definitive voices for the two characters over their three-decade tenure.

With the current situation, it is difficult to determine when Conroy's voice was last recorded for Batman as he is the one heard in both MultiVersus and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. He is also going to be heard once more in the upcoming animated film Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three.

MultiVersus' Latest Roster Addition

However, some fans have speculated that Hamill's voice for the Joker was recorded some time ago given MultiVersus was originally previewed with Conroy voicing Batman in 2022 in a beta release, said GamesRadar.

Despite this unknown factor, fans are still excited to hear Hamill voice the iconic character once more, particularly those who grew up watching the series that he starred in. On the other hand, it also serves as a bittersweet goodbye to two of the most iconic voices in video game history.

The latest trailer shows Batman, sporting Conroy's voice, walking through a green mist as other characters in the MultiVersus roster lie on the ground. He then comes face-to-face with the Joker, who drops a gun to the floor before speaking the words, "Get a load of me!"

There have also been unofficial video releases that show footage of the Joker and his gameplay. In the clips, it was clear that Hamill is back in action and is once more bringing back the evil and sinister feel to the character, according to Kotaku.
