The Rogue Prince of Persia Dev Announces New Release Date Following Hades 2 Controversy

The Rogue Prince of Persia Dev Announces New Release Date Following Hades 2 Controversy

The developer of The Rogue Prince of Persia, Evil Empire, announced a new release date for the roguelike following the controversy surrounding Hades 2's shadow drop last week.

Evil Empire is hoping that there wouldn't be another shadow drop, referencing Hollow Knight: Silksong, that could derail their plans even further. The Rogue Prince of Persia was supposed to be out in early access on Steam on May 14, 2024.

However, when Supergiant Games decided to quietly launch its latest roguelike, Hades 2, the developer was forced to delay to avoid fighting against the highly anticipated title. Now, the new release date for the latest entry in the Prince of Persia franchise is set for May 27, 2024.

With the latest announcement also came a message from Evil Empire that suggested the developer is already at its wit's end.

The new update read, "Not too far away, but it will let people finish up playing Hades 2 and the other great games that came out last week (and the ones which are coming out this week ^^') and we'll keep adding polish for our own release too," according to GamesRadar.

The part that showcases just how stressed the developer is read, "If Silksong shadow drops in the next two weeks I'm burning the whole thing down!" While it is not uncommon for developers to shuffle release dates, it was relatively unfortunate to have been forced to do so by a silent release.

When Evil Empire decided to delay the early access release of The Rogue Prince of Persia, it was because "everyone and their mum" was playing Supergiant Games' latest release.

The studio added that it was not every day that a game in the same genre, which is also one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, releases a week before they do.

Hades 2 Shadow Dropping on Steam

Prior to the release of The Rogue Prince of Persia, fans of the franchise can look at a full gameplay trailer that features Evil Empire's theme song.

The studio also revealed the game's prices so that players can be ready if they are looking to join in the fun. The Rogue Prince of Persia will be priced at a reasonable $19.99, said PCGamer.

It was not only Evil Empire and The Rogue Prince of Persia that was affected by Hades 2 launching quietly on Steam last week. Additionally, there were also plenty of other titles that were released, such as Animal Well, Crow Country, Little Kitty, Big City, and 1000xResist.

Despite Hades 2 being one of the most highly anticipated games of 2024, it seems that it did not take too much attention away from these titles. They have all received rave reviews from players and Animal Well in particular is dominating the Steam Charts.

What's also worth noting is that Animal Well has also beaten Hades 2 on Steam's Top Sellers List. When Evil Empire announced the delay for The Rogue Prince of Persia, it said that the additional time would give it a chance to further polish the game, according to The Verge.
