It's been a little while since we heard any rumblings about Resident Evil out of Capcom, but it looks like Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun (discovered by Dual Shockers) might have gotten some information on the newest entry in the survival horror series.
The translation is pretty rough to English (as is usually the case when translating Eastern languages), but the article states that Capcom will be "planning the announcement of an epic game for PS4" at E3. It then continues:
"It is seen as a new work of the Resident Evil series, attention of fans is growing. Latest '6' has sold 5.6 million more than in the world Resident Evil, comparable sales are expected to '7' also will be released."
So it seems that Capcom will be releasing a new Resident Evil, and fully expect it to sell just as well, if not better, than RE6.
There was also an interesting note earlier in the article, about Capcom and the Xbox One. Capcom's only next gen release to date has been Dead Rising 3, an Xbox One exclusive, and that's apparently not sitting well with the citizens of Japan. (The following quote is edited to make it a little more readable.)
"The Xbox One in Japan will be released in September this year. Japanese gamers can not play yet, dissatisfaction is growing. In addition, there has been spread a difference with sales of PS4 and Xbox One, it's unavoidable circumstances be taken of Capcom and 'strategic mistake.'"
Even after I edited it, it's still kind of a tough read, but basically they're saying that people in Japan are becoming aggravated with the lack of PS4 games, considering the Xbox One still has not made its way to Japan yet. Capcom also might realize this, and start making more games for both systems now.
