TGA 2025: Larian Shocks Fans With New 'Divinity' RPG That's Bigger, Darker than 'Baldur's Gate 3'

It will be "bigger" than "Baldur's Gate 3."

Larian Studios is going back to the universe that began it all, and the internet can't get enough.

Following on from a chilling teaser featuring a single monument standing alone within a desert setting, it took "The Game Awards 2025" for Larian's latest offering to be revealed as a very ambitious and daring 'Divinity' game. It's labeled as Larian's 'biggest game ever' and as such, expect big things.

The Belgium-based studio stunned fans with news that this upcoming installment of "Divinity" will include a world that will be larger even than that seen in "Baldur's Gate 3," an RPG that itself set numerous standards when it comes to storytelling and gameplay.

Cinematic Trailer Full of Dark Fantasy and Mythological Hints

It came with a spine-crawling cinematic trailer that goes directly into dark fantasy mayhem. From the trailer running for more than three minutes, we get a glimpse of:

  • A wicker man being burned.
  • Flesh melting and horrific screams
  • The lively flute melodies against the horrific images
  • The discovery of a mysterious monument known as Hellstone

The character description whispers an age of upheaval: "The gods are silent. Rivellion bleeds. New powers stir."

It's clear that it's going for a darker and more mythological tone, something that will bring it back to its roots, but on an altogether larger scale.

Reborn Franchise With Massive Success

Although "Divinity" as a game series existed since its launch in 2002, it was "Divinity: Original Sin," launched in 2014, and "Divinity: Original Sin II," launched in 2017, that brought Larian into mainstream popularity.

The series transitioned from an action RPG gameplay to turn-based strategy gameplay, which eventually influenced the highly acclaimed "Baldur's Gate 3", an all-time RPG game.

It appears that Larian is finally ready to expand on the world of Divinity once more, but with a scale and level that could potentially be beyond anything that they have ever created.

How the Netizen Gamers React to the New 'Divinity' Title

Reactions online went crazy as soon as the trailer came out. Fans on X, Reddit, and YouTube are proclaiming it as:

'Larian's darkest project yet.'

"Baldur's Gate 3 but on steroids."

"This game I didn't know I desperately needed."

There were people who were surprised that the new project was shown so soon after "BG3." Also, gamers welcomed being back on Rivellion because Larian is "finally home."

Memes, breakdowns, and theory threads began trending as well, and were especially prevalent regarding Hellstone and the line "New powers stir" that some people believe represents an impending shift in the lore and deities.

No Release Date Set Yet, But Expect Huge Hype

Larian has not yet given an indication of when they will be dropping it, but that hasn't quelled any buzz. It's expected to be one of the biggest names for 2026. The trailer is only an introduction, and we haven't seen yet the darker, deeper, and more sinister secrets the game is hiding from us.
