One of the biggest and most controversial franchises is set to make a return, with rumors claiming that "Wolfenstein 3" is now under development from its creators, Bethesda Studios and MachineGames.
In the past years, there have been massive teasers from the studios and developers that a third "Wolfenstein" game is coming to complete a trilogy in the series, and this latest rumor said that it would come alongside a series adaptation.
'Wolfenstein 3' Rumors Claim It's Under Development
Various publications have shared reports about the rumors emerging in the industry about "Wolfenstein 3," with Windows Central claiming that the game is already "on the cards" over at MachineGames.
It has been revealed that it may go alongside the "Wolfenstein" TV series adaptation, which is said to be coming. However, no concrete details behind it have been unveiled.
Following the report by Windows Central, Kotaku also published a report that corroborated the latest claims. The rumors also take note of a previous revelation by MachineGames last year, saying that the studio always planned for "Wolfenstein" to be a trilogy, and the franchise's third game may happen soon after a long wait.
It is important to note that the last game from the franchise, "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus," was released in 2017, which is nearly one decade ago.
Since the game is nowhere near finishing this year, it may very well reach a decade or more before the next game is released.
'Wolfenstein 3' Reportedly Coming Alongside Series Adaptation
As per the report, the plans for the third installment in the "Wolfenstein" gaming franchise are said to coincide with the potential "Wolfenstein" TV show adaptation that is also creating a massive buzz in the gaming industry.
There are still no concrete plans or information about what the "Wolfenstein" adaptation will bring, especially if it will delve extensively into the game's established plot.
That said, it is expected to still focus on the alternate plot after World War II, where the Axis Powers, led by Nazi Germany, have risen to power and taken over the world.
'Wolfenstein's' Revival May be Coming Soon
As per a previous interview with Jerk Gustafsson, MachineGames' studio head, the goal is to deliver a continued story of William "B.J." Blazkowicz, which they did with the game's revival way back in 2009.
The studio planned this right from the start, which translated into "Wolfenstein II" and then, for what will eventually be the third installment. According to this previous interview with Gustafsson, the "Wolfenstein" story is not done yet, and the team still has a story to tell.
It is known that in "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus," the Nazi force invaded the United States in the 1960s. Their focus on this story and the tagline "Make America Nazi-free again" may continue to be the theme of the next game.
