Some game communities are pretty tightly knit, but has a developer ever created a real-life statue to commemorate those who play its game?
Eve Online developer CCP created a monument engraved with the names of all the game's subscribers--a pretty unique and interesting decision. The monument stands in the developer's native Iceland, a 20-foot tall monolith by the water. The pictures come courtesy of Reddit user Thorshamar.

CCP announced the project in February, and today revealed its finished work. Were I one of the players listed on the monument, I would be quite pleased with CCP. The names listed are of every player subscribed to the game as of March 1, 2014. Also included is the name of Sean "Vile Rat" Smith, a U.S. Foreign Service member killed in the Benghazi attack in 2012.
The Eve Online community is intensely dedicated and passionate, devoting so much careful detail to an intricate virtual society, so hats off to CCP for this gesture acknowledging its fans.
Games writer Andrew Groen recently revealed a book he's writing about the history of Eve Online, which spans a decade and is filled with interesting details and impactful events. There's an entire digital society at work within Eve, Groen realized, which nobody is documenting and could be lost forever.
