'Bloodrayne: Betrayal' Hits Steam

Blades, Blood, and Skin-Tight Leather Hits Steam With Bloodrayne: Betrayal

Before the Sarah Palin looking Bayonetta appeared, the bloodsucking damphir Rayne was the femme fatale rocking revealing leather, and after three years, the vixen's most recent game, the bloody 2D hackfest BloodRayne: Betrayal, has come to PC via Steam.

Originally released in 2011 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, developer Abstraction Games exhumed the re-imagining of the BloodRayne universe and topped it off with a fresh layer of polish for Steam players, and on the cheap to boot. Updates include increased precision for Rayne's movements, re-balanced puzzles and challenges, as well as additional checkpoints throughout. In essence, the sultry Rayne is back, thirsty for a new audience.

BloodRayne had meager beginnings on the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and original Xbox back in 2002. The fangy ginger was a nazi hunter by trade, ironically hired by the vampire hunting Brimstone Society. Her "feminine" design started something of a following among fans, but a wicked pair of bladed gauntlets showed that there was a tad more to the series than bloody T&A. The same cannot be said for the trilogy of atrocious Uwe Boll directed movies that followed, but that's something of a given with that director.

Betrayal
keeps Rayne's employment "alive," which sees her infiltrating a posh gathering of the undead elite to track down and destroy as many vamps as possible. On her mission, Rayne cleaves through an endless plethora of grunts, goons, and creatures, something which landed the game a fair amount of criticism when it first released. Blood Fountains are now strategically placed throughout the game offering a level checkpoint and a moment to freshen up.

In addition to her trademark blades, Rayne also sports a pistol for ranged knock-downs and a beam weapon that doubles as a reflective shield to help solve puzzles. She'll use these weapons on enemies that include Flying Parasites, Wraiths, and Elite Guards.

Grab it from Steam here for $9.99 if you feel like a challenge.
