‘Fallout 76’s’ Much-Awaited PS5, Xbox Series S/X Versions Are Finally Coming—But When?

‘Fallout 76' is getting its much-awaited present-gen version.

Bethesda's much-awaited upgrade for "Fallout 76" is finally coming after quite some time since it was originally unveiled to the public, with the gaming studio now confirming its official release to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

'Fallout 76' PS5, Xbox Series X/S Version Finally Coming

According to Bethesda's latest release, a public playtest is coming to evaluate how the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of "Fallout 76" will fare in the market. This will be the first time that the studio will release a present-gen upgrade for the game.

The announcement was included by Bethesda within the patch notes for "Fallout 76's" latest seasonal update, with Season 25 getting the "Infestation" theme.

In the release, Bethesda shared the details regarding what to expect in the upcoming public playtest, which will deliver the main upgraded version of "Fallout 76" for the present-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

Bethesda says these versions will target 60fps and feature improved shadows and draw distances. The PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S versions will all support VRR.

"Fallout 76" originally debuted back in 2018 from Bethesda Softworks, making this as the first-ever online multiplayer game under the "Fallout" franchise set in the wasteland of West Virginia.

The game was criticized for not including any human NPCs at launch, but through the years, the studio added NPCs and other improvements to the game that made it a beloved title.

When is 'Fallout 76' PS5, Xbox Series X/S Releasing?

Based on what Bethesda shared in the patch notes, the public playtest begins sometime in June, with the proper release following later in the summer. An exact date is expected to be shared as the playtest gets underway.

The Xbox Games Showcase takes place on June 7, and there is a chance that Bethesda could use its showcase to share more details about the current-gen "Fallout 76" upgrade alongside any other franchise announcements.

What to Expect from 'Fallout 76' Present-Gen Version?

The base PS4 and Xbox One versions will stick to 1080p, while players can enjoy the game in 4K on Xbox Series X and PS5 Pro. However, the standard PS5 and PS4 Pro will be limited to 2K resolution or 2560x1440p.

"Fallout 76" also has fresh content launching alongside the new season beyond the announced present-gen upgrade for the game. The latest update kicked off Season 25, introducing infestations, which are swarms of challenging enemies that appear in certain areas of the map.

Clearing out those enemies, along with an elite boss, rewards players with a four-star legendary weapon or piece of armor. Starting June 23, seasonal fishing also arrives, with fall, winter, and spring fish appearing in the coming months.
