'Destiny' Dev Diary: Bungie To Allow Weapons Upgrade & Customization 'In Every Conceivable Way' On PS4? [VIDEO]

Bungie Dev Diary for Destiny Shows off Weapon System and Other Loot

The initial hands-on with Bungie's huge, expensive RPG-shooter Destiny was not covered particularly warmly by much of the press who tried the game, but perhaps this new video will leave a more positive impression.

Learn About Destiny's Character Classes from the Video Reveal

The new video focuses on a major driving force in Destiny: the loot you'll be aiming to collect as you play. Lead designer Lars Bakken and community manager David Dague take us through the game, showing off some of the weapons and armor you can acquire. There's a lot of emphasis on character growth alongside a wide array of weapon choices, which you can see for yourself in the video below.

Bakken also stresses the detailed and attractive design of both the weapons and armor, stating multiple times that these items were "handcrafted" by Bungie's design team. He notes that higher level gear will be immediately recognizable, so that low-level players will develop a sense of jealousy when they see a higher level player in fancy armor.

The video also explains the different weapon classes, of which there are three. Dague notes that this does not mean Destiny has three weapons, but that there are that many categories, which are primary, special, and heavy.

Primary weapons would consist of your main gun, such as a rifle or handcannon, while your special weapon would be something like a shotgun or sniper. The heavy weapon category, of course, consists of items like rocket launchers and heavy machine guns.

I'd definitely recommend checking out the footage below, because the combination of the video and narration gives a good idea of how the game plays, and what the weapon systems are like. Destiny launches on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 9.
