'Super Smash Bros' for Wii U Release Date News: Wire Frame Little Mac Character Revealed [SCREEN]

Super Smash Bros Pic of the Day Shows off Wire Frame Little Mac

The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS details keep coming from Nintendo, ahead of the staggered releases of both versions while we wait for specific launch dates.

Check Out The Recap Of Last Week's Super Smash Bros Reveals

We know the title will be out this summer on 3DS, and most likely this winter on Wii U, but it's seeming increasingly likely that we'll have to wait for this June's E3 for the exact release date.

What we will consistently see are daily updates from Nintendo on the game's official site. The last significant info drop came from a Nintendo Direct, below, which revealed several new characters and details. While the daily posts don't give as many details as that video did, rest assured that series director Masahiro Sakurai will show us something new from Super Smash Bros. with every update.

Today he's chosen to display a wire frame character, presumably from a single player or extra mode. It's the wire frame (the mesh under the character skin that makes up its shape) for Little Mac, the playable fighter from Punch-Out!! taking on Link in the recently revealed boxing ring stage. Here's Sakurai's accompanying description:

"Pic of the day. Here's wire frame Little Mac--re-envisioned from the original Punch-Out!! game. The man that actually drew the pixel art wire frame in the original was none other than Shigeru Miyamoto. He said he drew the pixels for the wire frame on graph paper."

The reveal comes with that bonus fun fact, which is interesting. Then again, Miyamoto is seemingly at the heart of everything Nintendo, so we probably shouldn't be surprised. The wire frames (first preceded by the "Fighting Polygon Team" in the original Super Smash Bros.) have been seen before as enemies in the series, requiring you to fight through waves of them.

Keep checking back for more Super Smash Bros. news ahead of E3, which will hopefully include an early specific release date announcement.
