'Super Smash Bros 4' Character List: Secret Info Revealed On Alternate Playable 'Animal Crossing' Villager [SCREEN]

Super Smash Bros Pic of the Day Reveals Alternate Version of Previously-Announced Character

The last major Super Smash Bros. character reveal came in the form of a Nintendo Direct video, which showed off several new playable characters that would be joining the roster. We learned about newcomer Greninja, the water type from Pokemon X and Y, along with a few others.

The daily picture posts on the game's official website haven't been revealing as many details--at least not at once--as the Direct video did, but you can certainly rely on their consistency. We usually see something about an item or stage, but today's post does come back to a sort of character reveal

Series director Masahiro Sakurai (who picks the daily updates) has chosen to reveal that you can play as a female version of the Animal Crossing Villager, pictured above. We've previously only seen the male Villager in both the reveal and any clips or images since, with no hints that there was an alternate character.

Nintendo Has 'Clear Idea' Of The Next Console After Wii U

It's a nice move by Nintendo: given that Animal Crossing is about role-playing and customization, it would be odd to assume only the male version of the Villager is wanted by Super Smash Bros. players. It's unclear if there is any variation at all in the move set between the male and female Villager, but I would guess that it's only a cosmetic change.

This new Super Smash Bros. will be out this summer on 3DS, and most likely this winter on Wii U, but it's seeming increasingly likely that we'll have to wait for this June's E3 for the exact release date. Keep checking back for more Super Smash Bros. news ahead of E3, which will hopefully include an early specific release date announcement.
