'Wasteland 2' Kickstarter Update: Success Story Ships In August, 'Fallout' Predecessor Gets A Sequel 20 Years Later [VIDEO]

Wasteland 2 Set To Ship in Late August

Wasteland 2 will officially ship at the end of August, inXile Entertainment's Brian Fargo announced via Kickstarter today. The wildly successful crowdsourcing project, which raised 327% of its initial goal, is the sequel to the popular 1988 post-apocalyptic PC game Wasteland, also created by Fargo.

"It's exciting to be in the home stretch on a game I've been wanting to get to for the last two decades. The feedback from our backers on the early beta has been great and I'm proud of the way Wasteland 2 is shaping up. The scope of the game is immense with a word count that is greater than The Lord of the Rings novels and a solid 50 hour+ game experience that has diversity from beginning to end. My goal has been to over deliver on our backer's expectations for Wasteland 2," said Fargo, whose Kickstarter video is some kind of wonderful.

The open access Beta is currently available on Steam and has just received a massive update. A new playable, a tiny little place called Arizona has been added, massively increasing the game's already huge scope. The full game will launch on PC, Mac and Linux at the end of August.

Wasteland 2 Has The Best First-Day DLC Ever Made

If you order the Digital Deluxe edition on Steam, you'll get access to the following:

- A free copy of Wasteland  - The Original Classic
- Two digital novellas set in The Wasteland world
- Mark Morgan's Wasteland 2 OST in digital format
- A digital concept art book

At $59.99, it can feel like a bit much. The actual released game will have a lower price point, the additional cost is for the loads of goodies you'll be receiving.

I never played the original Wasteland, I never even had heard of it until now. I was always a Fallout guy myself, but to see a long dormant title receive the sequel treatment not because of some corporate bottom-line, but out of genuine love and affection that the original creator has for it, now that is something I heartily support. Kickstarter is one of my favorite uses of the internet, and the Wasteland success story, currently on-going, is one of the many reasons why.
