FIFA 14' Mobile Now Free On iOS And Android, All Teams And Some Modes Available At No Cost

EA Sports has announced that the mobile version of FIFA 14 is now free across all platforms. You can download it now at no cost through the App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon Appstore, though some modes are restricted.

My Top 5 FIFA 14 Teams As The Season Winds Down

While not quite as fully-realized as the console and PC versions of the world's most popular sports franchise, the mobile version does offer Ultimate Team, Games of the Week, and Penalty Shootout. Prior to this update, the game ran you a few of dollars--not a bad price drop.

However, accessing the Manager, Tournament, and Kick-off (three of the main game modes) will require an upgrade that costs "a small fee". Always a catch, right? The entire game for free was of course too good to be true.

FIFA 14 Breaks U.K. Sales Record For Weeks Atop The Charts

The price change comes as the result of the approaching World Cup. EA has added licensed national team squads and kits into the game, and are pushing the event and its standalone 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil title for consoles.

Having played a bit of FIFA 14 on mobile, I can say the reworked touch controls are decent, if far from the same as using a controller. The title features all the real teams and leagues that the console version does, at least, even if the free version is lacking several game modes. You can at least play around in some of the modes (and people sure do love Ultimate Team, which is included) and see if you enjoy the game enough to upgrade.
