'Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor' Story Trailer Shows Off Tolkien's World, Voice Cast Announced [VIDEO]

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Story Trailer Shows Off Tolkien's World

WB Games has just released a more story orientated trailer for their upcoming Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor open-world action RPG. The trailer itself is not short on the astounding visuals we have come to expect from all things Lord of the Rings, but while many things happened and many words were said, I'll be damned if I'm entirely sure what this thing is about. Besides decapitating orcs aplenty, that is.

The game depicts the (one would assume) non-canon events between The Hobbit trilogy and the original Lord of the Rings, a period of roughly 60 years if I recall. Sauron, who has made more comebacks than both LL Cool J and Michael Jordan combined, it appears, is once again staging another return, which obviously Gandalf, Saruman and the rest of the Istari have no clue about. So it falls to brooding hero Talion, a murdered Ranger, to take up arms, subvert an army of Mordor orcs and stop Sauron until that hairy-footed jerk can put a permanent nail in the Dark One's coffin.

The AAA title game is voiced by some of the most recognizable voice actors in the industry. Troy Baker, who played Booker in Bioshock Infinite and Joel in The Last of Us lends his special brand of rugged individualism to Talion, while fan favorite Nolan North (Nathan Drake in Uncharted) will embody a character known as The Black Hand. Laura Bailey, who voiced Catherine in Catherine as well as Jaina Proudmoore in World of Warcraft joins them as Ioreth, who if the Lord of the Rings wiki is correct (and why wouldn't it be?) is the healer from the books who gabbed on and on about 'the hands of the king are the hands of a healer'.

Lord of the Rings Online Makes The MMO Hall Of Fame

Garry Schyman fills in for Howard Shore as the musical composer for the game. The composer earned several big awards for his outstanding work to the still outstanding Bioshock Infinite last year.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor hits the shelves for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3 on October 7, 2014. You can pre-order the game at shadowofmordor.com, and get a fancy Dark Ranger skin for your trouble.
