'Avatar' Theme Park Will Let You Walk And Fly On Pandora In 2017, Cameron Gives Disney Attraction A Name

Director James Cameron, speaking at the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival, teased some ideas and updates, including an official name, about the forthcoming Avatar theme park. A new film trilogy, a Cirque Du Soleil show and now a theme park? Cameron really loves visiting the world he's created, and he wants you to visit it with him, over and over again.

Avatar: The Cirque Du Soleil Experience!

In a recent Q&A reported by /Film, Cameron dropped the new title of the upcoming theme park . "It's going to be called, I believe, Pandora: The Land of Avatar," Cameron told the audience. Simple, direct and to the point. It's not official until the boss says so, but that's as unoffensive and straightforward name as anything, so it's probably a done deal.

Cameron is quite enthusiastic about the whole endeavor. Unsurprising, the man is enthusiastic about everything. "It's going to have floating mountains. It's pretty cool. I've seen the model and the design work the Imagineering people have done is spectacular. They've got a quarter inch to the foot scale model of the whole park and I've looked at all the sight lines...it's not a park, it's a land within the park but a land is not just a ride. There will be several rides and a number of other attractions. It's really just a place you're gonna wanna go and hang out. It's gonna be gorgeous. Of course it's gonna be gorgeous at night and they're using every new trick, every new bit of technology that they've created." Cameron said, and let's face it, how cool does that sound?

Say whatever you will about the story, but Pandora is definitely a place I'd like to travel to. It was beautiful, stunning and amazing to look at. If the reality of the park can reach even a tenth of the majesty that some of the concept art reaches, then this should be a wild success for Disney and Cameron. Behold! Pandora.

The theme park will open in Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2017, in between the release of Avatar 2 and 3. Cameron is furiously at work filming not one, not two, but all three Avatar sequels currently and will release the first sequel in 2016.
