'Call Of Duty Ghosts' DLC News: Invasion Gets Fan Favorite Map? Brazilian Shantytown 'Favela' Previewed [VIDEO]

After Modern Warfare 2 and 3, 'Favela' Hits Call of Duty: Ghosts Courtesy of the New Invasion DLC

Call of Duty: Ghosts' next DLC, Invasion, is all set to release today starting with Xbox One and Xbox 360 as per usual, and after looks at the Pharaoh and Mutiny maps, developer Infinity Ward is offering a peek at another map, "Favela," set in the slums of Brazil.

Infinity Ward Gives a Closer Look at Pharaoh and Mutiny Maps For Call of Duty: Ghosts' Invasion DLC

There's some interesting history with the map. Originally appearing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, (and would later appear in Modern Warfare 3) "Favela" was once removed from rotation after "offensive content" was discovered. The content in question? A picture of quotes from religious text was found hanging above a toilet somewhere in the map, reading, "Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty."

Muslim gamers complained, and the map was pulled so that the "offensive content" could be removed. Because in a series featuring an airport slaughter of civilians and nuclear war is completely acceptable, but a religious quote in a bathroom? Heaven forbid...

Call of Duty: Ghosts' Next DLC, Invasion, Announced, Activision Has the Details

Said Activision at the time, "We apologize to anyone who found this image offensive. Please be assured we were unaware of this issue and that there was no intent to offend. We are working as quickly as possible to remove this image and any other similar ones we may find from our various game libraries...Activision and our development studios are respectful of diverse cultures and religious beliefs, and sensitive to concerns raised by its loyal game players. We thank our fans for bringing this to our attention." The text was removed, and replaced with darkened, generic pictures.

When Activision first announced Invasion, "Favela" was described thusly: "a refreshed version of the fan-favorite map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Since its original release, the Brazilian shantytown has seen substantial change. Buildings once under construction are now complete, while others have crumbled into a state of disrepair. Players must avoid falling to their death as they traverse the map from one building to the next, with ramshackle scaffolding creating varied pathways between structures, and enemy snipers taking advantage of the long sightlines. Players who complete the Field Order in Favela will be able to call in heavy air support from a nearby Y-8 Gunship to bring the rain with a 105mm cannon, a 40mm auto-cannon and a 25mm cannon."

You can check out the video preview of the map below.

The map is out today on Xbox Live, and is expected to hit PC and PlayStation platforms a month from now. Season Pass holders get access to the content for free, while everyone else will have to pay $14.99. Expect more looks at the remaining map, "Departed," and the new "Awakening" episode for the game's "Extinction" mode.
