Google Glass Fashion Gets Boost With Diane Von Furstenberg Collaboration

Google previously announced it would be working with several fashion designers to make Glass more stylish, and the tech company today revealed its collaboration with the renowned American designer Diane von Furstenberg.

Google Partnering With Ray-Ban And Vogue Owner Luxottica To Make Glass Fashionable

You can order from the collection starting June 23 through NET-A-PORTER and Google's Glass site. It will consist of five new frames and eight new shades, hopefully turning the wearable tech into something people wouldn't be as hesitant to wear because of its appearance.

Google stated, "Today we're announcing the DVF | Made for Glass collection, a collaboration that brings chic eyewear designs by iconic American fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg to the Glass Explorer Program. These new designs build on the style choices we gave Explorers when we launched the Titanium Collection in January."

The Titanium Collection will also become available through Mr. Porter when the DVF Collection is launched. Google has been making an effort to connect Glass with fashion for several years, giving consumers a first-person look at the DVF Spring 2013 fashion runway through Glass in a partnership with the brand in 2012.

Google may be worried that the device is too outlandish to catch on outside of enthusiasts, partnering with high-end fashion brands to push the device as stylish and cool. It may work in some circles, though price and a potentially negative connotation might see Google struggle to get its device going in the mainstream--only the finished product and time will tell.

Google may not need the product to gain mainstream success, anyway (and it probably doesn't expect it to in the near future), and it should be seen as one of the first major steps alongside smartwatches in making wearable tech popular.
