Ubisoft saved a big name for last at its conference, revealing the new Rainbow Six title Siege, replacing the game previously in development, Rainbow Six Patriots.

A long gameplay demo of Rainbow Six Siege showed off a Counter-Strike-esque setup of hostage-takers against a rescue team, where the defenders set up in a large house with a defenseless woman.
It looked great, with a lot of different tools and weapons at your disposal to defend and attack. You can pick your point of entry as the attackers, and choose where to defend from as the hostage-takers. There was a timer, though I'm unsure which side benefits if it reaches zero (presumably, like Counter-Strike, the rescue team loses).

As the attackers you can blow holes in the wall or floor to create new points of entry, while the defenders can set up traps and weapons to defeat the rescuers. The matches are 5 on 5, at least in the game mode presented, and once you go down, you're out of the fight for good if you can't get revived in time.
In an interview with Polygon, Rainbow Six brand director Alexandre Remy explained the cancellation of Patriots, which fell apart due to poor timing.
"It's not in development anymore," said Remy. "The main decision was some months after Patriots was announced in 2011 that was the first moment we knew the first generation of new consoles were coming. So obviously at that moment and for a franchise such as Rainbow we needed to decide if we could make something for next-gen and we were already pretty advanced in the development of Patriots.
"It was a strategic decision to make that happen," he said. "It's hard to imagine a Rainbow Six game that doesn't use the latest technology. We had to decide do we keep working on something that might be a bit late in the cycle or do we actually take that opportunity of next-gen?"
