Will 'The Legend Of Zelda' Wii U Game Support Multiplayer? Designer Eiji Aonuma Drops Some Juicy Next Gen Details

'The Legend Of Zelda' Wii U May Support Multiplayer

Zelda is many, many things: epic, beautiful, visionary. The one thing it is not, with the exception of some DS titles, is multiplayer. That may all change with the release of The Legend of Zelda Wii U, rumored to be subtitled 'The Unbound King' next year.

Nintendo E3 Roundup Features Mario, Zelda And Starfox!

According to designer Aonuma, the next entry into one of the most beloved franchises of all time may "feature more than just the single player experience." Speaking with Game Informer to promote the upcoming Hyrule Warriors, Aonuma let slip this little kernel of curiosity:

"The two-player functionality of Hyrule Warriors is actually something that has traditionally been done in the Dynasty Warriors series, but they've changed because of the hardware and the second screen on your GamePad. Instead of having a splitscreen on the television, you have one-player playing on the television and one on the GamePad."

Hellraid: The Escape iOS Game Gives You Nothing To Defend Yourself With Against Demons

"When I was talking back about making Zelda more than just a single-player experience? That's something you will see in the future, maybe next year." Again, nothing confirmed, but imagine the possibilities. The dual screen gameplay of say, New Super Mario Bros 2 on the Wii U is a highlight of the system. Picture you riding through Hyrule atop Epona, while your friend whizzes by your head as Navi, collecting items and of course, telling you to listen. Or the two of you can play as Midna and wolf Link. Or, if the ill advised petition works out, you can be two Links at the same time!

It is all just speculation at this point. We do not even have an official title, just a thoroughly amazing E3 glimpse at the upcoming Zelda game. Hyrule Warriors, on the other hand, is very much a multiplayer game and will be released on September 26.

So, what would your ideal Zelda partner combo be?
