'Shovel Knight' Digs Its Way Into Your Wii U And 3DS Tomorrow, 8-Bit Adventure Game Will Be An Epic For All Time [VIDEO]
Godard once said that all you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun. By similar logic, all you need to make a video game is a Knight and a Shovel. Yacht Club Games has taken that maxim to heart and is launching Shovel Knight tomorrow, June 26, for the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Steam.
The game puts you in the metal-clad boots of Shovel Knight, the Knight who carries a Shovel, as he quests across a foreign land searching for his lost love and to defeat the evil Enchantress. But take heed, warrior, between you and your goals lies a veritable army of knights, which I imagine carry spades or other, non-Shovel based digging implements. Spork Knights, perhaps.
To call Shovel Knight retro is the highest compliment. The game is an 8-bit sidescroller in the grand tradition of Mario and Ninja Gaiden, filled to the brim with whimsical adventure, great characters and simple but fun controls.
"Packed to the brim with content, Shovel Knight boasts several unique features on Nintendo platforms. Shovel Knight will include exclusive Miiverse functionality on Wii U, and the Nintendo 3DS version will feature both stereoscopic 3D and an exclusive Battle Arena mode using StreetPass."
"With Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games is leading a new indie charge in the Nintendo eShop, strengthening an already great lineup of content," said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America's vice president of Licensing. So, if you find yourself needing something other than Mario Kart 8 for your Wii U, you may find something here. I am firmly entrenched in the pro-Wii U camp, so the more quality games that system gets, the better.
The game will retail for $15. Check out the trailer below and get your digging hands ready- Shovel Knight will wait for no man.
