NHL 15 Cover Revealed: Check Out Patrice Bergeron On This Year's Box Art

Last night at the NHL's seasonal awards show in Las Vegas, the presenters took time out to announce that it was Patrice Bergeron of the Bruins who won the long-running cover vote for NHL 15.

Bergeron defeated Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban in what was a tight, often humorous race for votes on social media. The two were brought on stage in front of their attending peers and, after a somewhat out of place dance number, the new cover featuring Bergeron was revealed. You can see the full version of that image below.

The cover vote is no more than a popularity contest since EA almost always selects only top-level athletes to begin with (meaning it's rarely a race for which player had a better season), and Bergeron edged out Subban on this go around. Subban is a divisive figure, which likely went against him here despite his undoubted skill level.

I personally vouched for Subban, as I thought he would be a good fit for a cover athlete given his talent and personality. He won last season's Norris Trophy and he helped carry his team to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season (where I can happily say his team was eliminated by the Rangers).

Bergeron is a very effective two-way forward, winning the Selke Trophy at the league's awards show tonight, and is regarded as one of the best defensive forwards in the game. Both players helped Team Canada earn gold at the Olympics this winter, and this truly was a contest between two of the best in their respective positions. Enjoy the new cover art, Bruins fans, and keep an eye out for new NHL 15 details.
