JK Rowling Pens New ‘Harry Potter’ Short Story, Digs At Tabloid Culture, Available For Free Online

Rita Skeeter Reports From The Quidditch World Cup In A New JK Rowling Penned Harry Potter Short

Return to the Harry Potter universe in a Pottermore update set at the 2014 Quidditch World Cup.

J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them To Be Movie Trilogy

J.K. Rowling's boy wizard returns - although he is no longer a boy and does little to no wizarding - in a short story set at the 2014 Quidditch World Cup in Patagonia. Wizards always do stuff slightly askew from Muggles, don't they? Register for a free account at Rowling's Pottermore website to access the Daily Prophet section and read the whole thing.

If you feel like registering an account is some Death Eater hogwash, allow the Peter Pettigrews here at GameNGuide to give you the gist of what the short story's about. In the form of a Rita Skeeter gossip piece, Rowling slyly comments on tabloid journalism while giving fans a bit of an update on where the Harry Potter principals are, 17 in-universe years later (Deathly Hallows was set in 1997). Skeeter's prose is full of suppositions and leading questions to no one in particular. If there was a magical Benghazi, it'd surely be referenced!

Harry himself has a Reed Richards-like dash of grey in his hair, while poor Ron's is thinning. For all you shippers out there, yes, all the principal relationships are still as described in the epilogue of the last book. Rowling gets in what I feel to be a little dig at that very same shipper crowd by having Skeeter ponder "what really happened in that maze" between Harry and "muscular" Victor Krum. Gotta love a lady with a sense of humor and knowledge of her fan base!

Extra make-out pleasures (because let's face it, this whole thing is a clever multi-layered dig at tabloid journalism on top of als being a tease for fans who care DEEPLY about who's making out with whom): Teddy Lupin, Harry's godson and the orphaned son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, is seen "snogging" with a Weasley girl. Find out for yourself which one!
