Evolve 3D Models; Turtle Rock Giving Away Blueprints So Players Can Print Their Own 3D Plastic Figures

Turtle Rock Entertainment is getting real in its promotion of its upcoming 4v1 sci-fi co-op Evolve. We're talking tactile, hold-in-your-hand real.

The company has announced that now you can order 3D printed models of the 4 hunters and the Monster. On the Evolve website, you can find the 3D blueprints and download all of them, for free. All you need now is one of those fancy almost-but-not-quite a Star Trek materializers.

If you don't have one of those, Evolve gives you the links to several custom 3D print shops, such as Shapeways.

Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Teaser Is Out!

What is peculiar is that this strikes me less as a promotion for Evolve and more as a promotion for one of the 3D printing companies Turtle Rock lists on the site. I am all about 3D printing and The Diamond Age-esque wonders it can bring us. What I'm not entirely sold on is passing off the price of the printing process onto the us, the consumer. Time is precious, money is precious and since one cannot claim the exact creation rights to the product, I just uploaded a file after all that I would rather just wait for the official, mass market Evolve figures to hit toy shelves.

It is a great deal if you're a forward thinking individual and already have a 3D printer or if you have some lottery winnings that are just burning a hole in your pocket.

Watch the 3D printing call to action below and determine for yourself! Evolve hits shelves, when else, on October 21.
