In a talk with Official Xbox Magazine, Turtle Rock explains how Evolve's DLC will differ from other games.

Turtle Rock Studios' Chris Ashton promises Evolve will be different in an interview with Official Xbox Magazine: "We're definitely looking to see how the community reacts... It's designed to have a long life - hopefully that works and we get to try a bunch of crazy things with the community after release. As long as people are into it and the DLC does reasonably well, then we'd like to keep making more. At the end of the day, it's a business and it has to make sense, but we believe that we've built a game that does support that really well - more so than any game ever before."

DLC that reacts to a community's wishes and actually delivers something you want after playing the base game, rather than dropping a bunch of pre-planned stuff at scheduled intervals? Say it ain't so! Ashton, a veteran of Left 4 Dead, has plenty of DLC delivery experience under his belt, so there's good reason to be hopeful here.

Evolve Big Winner At Games Critics Awards

If Evolve can deliver on this, I'll be quite happy! Nobody likes having to pay extra for a "special edition" of a game that just dropped, especially knowing that the content's code is right there with the basic game itself, and is simply unlocked by dropping a little more cash. It's never an "essential" part of the experience, but oftentimes it's cool or enticing enough that nobody wants to go without it - think Catwoman in Batman: Arkham City.
