SDCC 2014: ‘Batman 75: Legends Of The Dark Knight’ Promises Tons Of Cool Stuff

Marvel turns 75 this year. DC doesn’t. Their second oldest character turns 75 this year: Batman. And to celebrate that gold diamond anniversary, DC is announcing July 23 as international Batman Day. Just because.

GameNGuide Suggests 10 Comic Book Panels @ SDCC 2014

DC is doing at least one fairly epic thing at Comic Con, and that’s hosting a panel featuring some of Batman’s most beloved surviving creators: Denny O’Neill, Grant Morrison, Len Wein, Frank Miller, ...you name it. It’s on GameNGuide’s very own 10 Comic Panels You Can’t Miss list linked right above this paragraph, in fact!

For the 75th anniversary, DC had commissioned veteran comic book writer Brad Meltzer (Identity Crisis, the crossover where Sue Dibney was murdered and revealed to have been raped by Dr. Light) to do a re-telling of Batman’s very first 1939 appearance in Detective Comics #1 (the abbreviation of which would later become DC), “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate”, in a giant-size issue of Detective Comics #27 (2011 version).

SDCC 2014: Marvel vs DC – Who Will Win?

“The ears gets taller, then shorter. The costume will get darker, then lighter. The utility belt will get pouch-y, then sleeker. But Batman’s character is as stubborn as the man beneath the cowl,” Meltzer says in an interview with the Washington Post. “He is immovable. He projects sheer will, convincing us we have a chance — even when we don’t. And. He. Will. Not. Change. We, as a people, need someone that committed to an ideal.”
