‘The Hobbit 3’ San Diego Comic-Con Poster Shows 'Hot' Smaug On Bard Action [PICTURE]

The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies Poster Promises Hot Smaug On Bard Action

The official Hobbit twitter account revealed the first official poster for the final part of the trilogy, titled The Battle of the Five Armies, teases some more revelations at this Saturday's Hobbit presentation at 10 a.m. at San Diego's Comic Con.

Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor Behind The Scenes Video Showcases Story

The poster is actually pretty awesome, showcasing Bard of the line of Girion (Luke Evans, soon-to-be star of Dracula Untold and Aramis in the vastly underrated The Three Musketeers by Paul W.S. Anderson) facing off solo against Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch), last of the fire-drakes of the north. Or was that Scatha? Please go Ancalagon the Black on my ass in the comments for this scandalous lapse in knowledge.

It's also pretty funny that the poster promises that this movie will be "the defining chapter", like the previous two movies weren't really representative of the story they wanted to tell. Ironic, of course, since many fans believe the Lord of the Rings-style epicness is inappropriate for a Hobbit adaptation. Perhaps if the first film, An Unexpected Journey, was the defining chapter, with its screamingly camp goblin king shrieking things like "THE BITER, IT IS BRIGHT AS DAYYYYYYYY!", these movies would be a bit better received critically?

I think the Hobbit movies are perfect examples of guilty pleasures for me. I'm such a mark for Peter Jackson's version of The Lord of the Rings that I completely enjoy these pointlessly bloated, often weightless and badly padded prequels. While my brain is telling me you probably could have told the story of The Hobbit in around two luxurious hours of whimsy, my heart is just happy to be in Middle Earth for a bit longer.
