Flappy Bird Is Back: Mobile Sensation Returns As 'Flappy Birds Family' For The Fire TV, Offers 2 Player Co-op And New Features

Creator Dong Nguyen said he would bring back Flappy Bird some day after abruptly pulling it from mobile app markets, and now he has delivered--but with a twist.

Facebook Went Down Earlier, Providing The Internet With Entertainment

The game is new and improved--rebranded as Flappy Birds Family--but is only available on the Amazon Fire TV streaming device, reports Polygon. This allows some new features, but will severely limit the number of people who will have access to it for the time being. It can be downloaded via the Amazon App Store.

Flappy Birds Family offers a two-player cooperative mode, a benefit of releasing on a console-style device with controllers (or the Fire TV's remote). Additionally, new challenges such as ghosts you'll need to avoid have been added to the game.

The iPhone 6 Is A Few Months Away, Do We Know What Its Major Features Will Be?

"Flappy Birds now are on Amazon Fire TV with incredible new features: Person vs Person mode, more obstacles, more fun and still very hard," reads the app store's description. "Enjoy playing the game at home (not breaking your TV) with your family and friends."

Flappy Bird was released last year on iOS and eventually Android, reportedly making Nguyen tens of thousands of dollars per day in advertising revenue after being downloaded millions of times. It became an internet and gaming sensation, but Nguyen unexpectedly announced he would be pulling the game from mobile marketplaces.

He cited its addictive nature and the troubling stories he had seen related to it, but said that he would bring it back some day. That day has come now that things have cooled down, but it's not likely to again make the splash it did the first time--especially if it remains only on the Fire TV.
