1.5 million paid subscribers to Call of Duty Elite

Activision revealed that Call of Duty Elite has garnered 1.5 million paid subscribers and publisher after debuting with the first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 last November. Over 7 million players have registered to use the service. Players can play Modern Warfare 3 online for free with the PlayStation 3 version. Xbox Live Gold members are also exempted from fees to play online.

But to get additional downloadable content, Activision created an online subscription called Call of Duty Elite. Monthly gamers who pay a fee can access DLC packs, maps, see stats and data, and giving them additional hours of replay value for the Modern Warfare 3 game. Players can use a free component to read statistics and data.

The cost each month is $4.99 and includes all map packs which can cost someone $60 per year. Activision attempts to establish its popular Call of Duty game as a brand and brining additional value to its fans with the subscription. Elite has released two maps for Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer mode, and the third one will be downloadable this month.
