iPhone 6 Release Date News: Apple September Event Will Reveal New iPhone Models, Could Launch Same Day

Apple September Event Will Reveal New iPhone 6 Models, Could Launch Same Day

A new report has given us what is perhaps the most concrete release date yet for the iPhone 6, predicting a September 9 reveal.

Which Photo Apps Are Used The Most? Facebook's Properties Dominate

Re/code, founded by very well-connected industry journalists Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher, are confirming that Apple's big media event on that date is when we'll first see the two differently sized iPhone 6 models, which could be released upon reveal.

It's not uncommon in the current industry to simultaneously unveil and launch a product on the same day. However, re/code's report only says September 9 is the date of the event, and doesn't implicitly state whether or not the phones will be released that day as well--it could go either way.

iPad Air vs iPad 4 Details, Differences And Similarities

What does seem clear is that both models--the standard 4.7-inch and the much larger 5.5-inch versions--are set to be revealed together, and will likely launch at the same time. All of this information agrees with report from yesterday based on Venture Beat's sources, which said we will see both phones at Apple's September 9 event. It also mentioned the new A8 processor, and went on to list other details like improved Wi-Fi and an upgraded fingerprint scanner.

The release date has been cause of much speculation, particularly in relation to possible delays and the supply of sapphire glass. The consensus now seems that the super-hard material won't make it into the iPhone 6 at launch, and VB's information stated that the display used will be something in between Gorilla Glass and sapphire glass. Stay tuned for more details as September 9 approaches, including any word on whether or not the phones will launch the day of the event.
