First Dead Island 2 Gameplay Footage Shows Game Getting More Ridiculous And Bloody, Not Actually On An Island

Deep Silver has just released pre-alpha footage of Dead Island 2 at Gamescom, the first actual gameplay footage from the game! It reveals that the game is getting even more over-the-top, to our delight and the poor zombies' dismay.

Now the game was never completely serious, despite what that iconic, emotional teaser trailer for the first game may have told you, but here it's completely different. The weapons are apparently customizable in new and crazy ways, Want to freeze a zombie and smash it to pieces? Go for it. Electrocute all of them around you? Shock away.

The other thing that's a suprise is that it's set in beautiful, sunny California. No islands to be found here! At least, until that great earthquake of 2000. (Snake? Snake!)

Those of you worried about it being exactly like the last two games, which had their moments but weren't the best zombie games in town, new developer Yager might be what convinces you to give the series another try. They're the guys behind Spec Ops: The Line, as well as this year's E3 hit Dreadnought. They haven't made a bad game yet and while yes, they're working with someone else's license, these guys are wonderful designers and what's more- they know how to mesh story with gameplay like few others.

If nothing else, the game looks incredible. This may be the best digital zombies we have ever seen, and while the series was always gruesome, even in this pre-alpha state Dead Island 2 is looking like you can literally hack the zombies to bits and pieces. We'll be sure to see much more of it in the months until its release, which is set for Spring 2015 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
