Dota 2 eSports Tournament To Take Place In NYC's Madison Square Garden: Teams Competing For $100,000 Before NYCC
eSports brand ESL is hosting a Dota 2 tournament at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City this October, kicking off ReedPop's inagural New York Super Week.
Yes, MSG, The Garden, the single most iconic sports structure in NYC, is hosting an eSports tournament. If you need any more proof of how big eSports has gotten, well, there you go.
It will be the largest in-person competitive gaming event ever held on the East Coast, with thousands of fans attending to watch the finals of the latest global Dota 2 tournament. Thousands upon thousands more will tune in on Twitch.tv, where the event will be broadcast on ESL's Twitch channel, with joinDOTA providing on-air talent for the show.
In it, eight of the world's top Dota 2 teams will fight it out for a $100,000 prize pool.
"By staging this event at the iconic Madison Square Garden, we're going to see history in the making," said James Lampkin, Product Manager for ESL One. "ReedPOP, Twitch and ESL are coming together to create something special that New York City has never seen before."
This is the kick-off for ReedPOP's Super Week, a 10-day long festival that will have over 60 "nerdy, geeky, cool" pop culture events across all five boroughs of the city, and lead right into the New York Comic Con.
