Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley Developer Diary Details Unique Animal Traits, Back To Basics Mentality

Natsume is continuing to release developer diaries for its upcoming Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley Nintendo 3DS title due for release later this year.

The first developer diary showed off the new tool system, which has been streamlined to make things easier for the player, even if some real-world logic is thrown by the wayside in terms of how much you can carry.

To avoid confusion, it should be noted that the main development team for past Harvest Moon titles is working on a different game in the same vein that does not use the franchise's name, Story of Seasons. You can find more about that title here, but let's look at what Natsume has to say about its own title.

Super Smash Bros 3DS Smash Run Menu Revealed, Allows You To Choose Leveled Powers

"While we were first developing Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley, we called it by a code name: Back to Basics. We've applied this philosophy to many aspects of the game, including the animals available on the farm," said Producer Taka Maekawa. "We went back to the basics: cows, sheep, chickens, and, of course, horses."

The developers are seeking to make each animal more unique, and have included a variety of traits an animal can possess, which alter how they behave and react. Sample traits include an animal's favorite season (its affection rises more quickly during this time), Elegant (it hates being dirty), and the ability to produce higher quality goods. If you want a particular trait, you can breed an animal to keep or improve that ability.

Special feeds can also teach animals new skills, but the developers are saving those details for another time. Keep checking back for more news on the upcoming Harvest Moon title, which does not yet have an exact release date.
