New LEGO Batman 3 Beyond Gotham Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Plot, Villains [VIDEO]

Brainiac Takes Over In New LEGO Batman 3 Trailer

The LEGO world is a mess and Brainiac just needs to rule it.

LEGO Batman 3 Pre-Order Bonuses Announced

The WB Games YouTube channel posted a brand-new trailer today for the next installment of the LEGO Batman franchise: Beyond Gotham. This time around, the problems go well beyond the confines of Batman's shady city as the Justice League needs to keep Brainiac and his cadre of villain compatriots from taking the entire world for themselves.

The trailer is more about teasing the plot than showing off gameplay. Fans of Traveller's Tales' long-standing series of LEGO franchises have a good idea of what to expect on that front regardless. In LEGO Batman 3, Brainiac, a self-proclaimed "collector of civilizations and knowledge," has come to Earth because he's become bored with his previous acquisitions. Now, he wants to collect an entire planet.

Meet The Cast Of LEGO Batman 3

The villains take the front stage in the trailer. Joker, the Yellow Lantern Corps and Lex Luthor are seen hanging out with Solomon Grundy and a full-size Killer Croc, two characters that seem to be taking a cue from the Big-Figs introduced in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes like the Thing and the Hulk. What's interesting is that some villains seem to be hanging out in the Watchtower with a group of Leaguers, suggesting that we may see both sides team up for the common goal of protecting the planet.

This trailer also gives comic fans a sneak peak of the kind of settings this game will include. The Batcave, Watchtower and Hall of Justice all make expected appearances, and some of the game looks like it takes place in deep space. Brief flashes of other levels suggest that the League will be able to smash up Brainiac's ship, a lava level almost reminiscent of Apokolips and Gorilla Grodd's home city of Gorilla City as well.
