HP Recalls Millions Of Laptop Power Cords That Could Be Fire Hazards

Hewlett-Packard has announced a voluntary recall of power cords that could burn you, set your office on fire and delete all your documents not stored in the cloud if your laptop is melted in the flames. The recall is for nearly 6 million power cords in the United States and Canada.

New Report: Square Raising $200 Million in Funding

Specifically, HP claims the recall affects about 5.6 million power cords sold in America and almost 450,000 in Canada.

HP received 29 reports of the cords melting or charring. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the agency ordering the recall, said that these reports included two incidents of minor burns and 13 property damage claims.

The cords were model LS-15 and used for HP and Compaq notebook computers, as well as several other HP notebooks and devices. The LS-15 power cords were sold around the globe in retail stores and online from September 2010 until June 2012.

The federal regulators said that customers should stop using the cords immediately and contact HP for a free replacement.

Customers who are afraid to take a little risk in their lives can call HP at 877-219-6676 to get help with their recall. They can also go on HP's website and go through the "Recalls" section. If you are unsure if you have a potential killer power cord, you can input the product information on the website and HP will check if it is affected by the recall.
