Guardians Of The Galaxy Ticket Sales Outta This World: Marketing, Music Helps Make It #1 Box Office Hit Of The Summer According To Fandango

Marvel Win: Guardians Of The Galaxy Is Box Office Hit Of The Summer

Marvel, you've done it again! After surprising everyone with releasing the third biggest movie of all time with the Avengers in 2012 and then nearly topped that amazing feat one year later with Iron Man 3, Guardians of the Galaxy is yet again the year's winner, according to a Fandango box office report.

The James Gunn-directed, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana-starring space adventure has really hit a nerve with not just geeks, but general audiences worldwide.

"In fact, according to Fandango's opening weekend survey, 55% of Guardians ticket buyers said they planned to see the film more than once," said Fandango correspondent Tiffany Smith. "Marvel's success with Guardians is a testament to the studio's dedication to quality, originality, clever marketing, emerging directors like James Gunn, and staying true to the source material. And let's not forget about that amazing summertime feel-good soundtrack."

Marvel Review: Miss Marvel #7 Ends Kamala's First Team-Up With Wolverine

Guardians topped Fandango's Fanticipation weekend buzz chart, beating out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the previous week's #1 movie If I Stay. It is very rare for a movie to fall off the number one spot and then reclaim it in later week's. In fact, the last time I remember that happening was the first How To Train Your Dragon back in 2010. Just goes to show that Guardians is a genuinely beloved, good word-of-mouth popcorn crowdpleaser.

With the movie being an adaptation of a D-list (not in quality but fame) hero team, I'm sure Marvel is looking pretty confidently at bringing stuff like Ant-Man and Dr. Strange to the screen.
